Letterbird

Terms of use

Last updated: 24 September 2026

The short version.

  • You need to be 13 or older.
  • Be kind. No harassment, sexual content, hate or spam, and never ask a younger member for their contact details.
  • A letter can't be taken back once it's sent.
  • Coins and Premium are for use in Letterbird only and have no cash value.

Agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and Letterbird ("we", "us"). By creating an account or sending a letter through letterbird.me, you agree to them and to our privacy policy.

Who can use Letterbird

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of legal adulthood where you live, you need a parent or guardian's permission. You must give your real birth date: it decides which age group you are in and can't be changed in the app. One person, one account.

Your account

Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens in your account. If you think someone else has access to it, change your password and tell us.

How letters work

  • Letters take time to arrive. Delivery times shown in the app are estimates.
  • A letter can't be recalled. Once you send it, it will be delivered.
  • A member you write to may have blocked you or closed their account. We don't always tell you this, to protect their privacy.
  • Daily limits apply to letters, postcards and new pen pal suggestions.

Rules for everyone

Don't use Letterbird to:

  • harass, threaten, bully or frighten anyone;
  • send sexual content, or any content that sexualises a minor;
  • ask anyone, and especially a member aged 13 to 17, for their phone number, address, photos or social media, or push them to talk somewhere else;
  • promote hate or violence against people because of who they are;
  • send spam, advertising, chain letters, scams or links to harmful sites;
  • pretend to be someone else, or lie about your age;
  • share someone's private information without their permission;
  • break the law, or try to break, overload or get around how Letterbird works.

Anonymous letters

Anyone can send an anonymous letter or postcard to a member's ID through letterbird.me, if that member accepts anonymous letters. The same rules apply. Anonymous letters can be reported, and we may block a sender from letterbird.me.

Your content

You own what you write. To deliver it, you give us permission to store your letters and show them to the person you sent them to. This permission ends when the letter is erased. The letters you receive belong to the person who wrote them: please don't publish someone's letter without asking them.

Safety and enforcement

You can block any member and report any letter. We review reports and may remove letters, limit features, or suspend or close accounts that break these terms, without notice if safety requires it. We report content that exploits children to the authorities.

Coins and Premium

  • Coins and Premium are sold through the App Store and Google Play, and their payment and refund rules apply.
  • Coins let you get envelopes, stamps and other items in Letterbird. They have no cash value, can't be exchanged or transferred, and are lost if your account is closed.
  • Premium lasts for the period you buy. Buying again adds to the time you have left. Premium doesn't renew by itself: when the period ends, your account returns to the free plan.
  • Items you have collected stay in your album even if we stop offering them.
  • Prices and what's included may change. Changes don't affect what you have already bought.

Closing your account

You can delete your account at any time in Settings, or through our account deletion page. We may close accounts that break these terms or stay inactive for a long time; we'll try to warn you first.

Disclaimers

We work hard to keep Letterbird running, but we provide it as it is, without guarantees that it will always be available or free of errors. We are not responsible for what members write to each other, although we act on reports.

Limitation of liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or unforeseeable losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can't be limited by law.

Changes and law

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. These terms are governed by the laws of the country where Letterbird is established, without affecting consumer protection rules of the country you live in.
