Practise a language by writing letters

Chat moves too fast when you're learning. A letter gives you time to look up a word, try a new phrase and read the reply slowly. On Letterbird you can write to people who speak the language you're learning.

Replies arrive a few hours later, full of everyday words no textbook teaches. Many pen pals are happy to correct mistakes if you ask.

Questions

Is Letterbird a language course?

No. Letterbird is a pen pal app. There are no lessons or tests, just real people writing to each other, which is great practice.

Will my pen pal correct my mistakes?

There's no automatic correction, but many members gladly help if you mention you're learning. Just ask in your first letter.

Which languages can I practise?

Any language and any alphabet. Members come from all over the world, and the app itself is available in eight languages.

Is there a built-in translator?

No, on purpose. You read and write yourself, which is exactly how a language sticks.
